Hey andrea! haha didnt update cos i was too tired & sleepy last night lah, only went up at midnight. matt and i were the couple sitting at the pool together with yih ping the guy who didnt come in the end. almost couldnt wake up in the morning, but it was a good experience. fun wasnt it?
the match was disappointing in the end cos generally the singapore players didnt play with too much passion and fighting spirit, they were basically content with holding back and keeping a defensive formation not wanting to take any chances at going out to score more goals. laid back, disinteresting and the pace was painfully slow. indonesia was definitely the livelier of the two sides with more tenacity and determination. possibly fuelled by the fact that they needed a win against us in order to proceed to the semis but i give them respect, except for the no.19 who dived ha. also, they looked fitter and more agile than our players. i remember quite a few shots that they had which were good, hard strikes, but they were only to be denied by lionel lewis. not to mention lewis made some good saves which saved us and kept us in the game.
the score was 2 all. first goal was due to a penalty which came about cos the indo keeper felled our no.10 jersey indrah sadan (not sure how you spell his name tho), then indo leveled, then we scored and they leveled again. the second and third goals were just goals that came out of a messy scramble for the ball and the last i must say, was not supposed to be a goal. the setup came from an indo player who tried to bring a high ball down and it hit his hand (at this juncture i thought the referee would surely call for a handball), then i think he passed to his teamate who shot a high ball which sailed into the net rather gracefully (note at this point all the singaporeans were jeering and shouting 'referee kayu!' and you know the normal vulgarities like 'what the fuck?!' and 'referee fucking chibai!' lol). hmm and the singapore defenders did not try to stop the shot cos they all thought it was hand ball. actually that made me think: when you play at a professional level normally players would play to the whistle, no whistle no foul. you dont just stop playing cos you think what the opponent did was a foul. nevertheless the referee ruled it as a goal, we were left hoping for more. the lions at this point seemed only keen to keep the scoreline at a draw and considering the indonesians were hungry for goals, there were a quite a number of close shaves but fortunately no goals came for them.
counting down to the last few mins the highlight of the match must have been the indonesian player (i think he was wearing a no.3 jersey) who suddenly ran onto the pitch from the sidelines as he was injured earlier, when there were already 11 indo players fielded! the crowd was jeering like fuck. the linesman didnt do anything at all. i even wonder why he let him on the pitch. when no.3 realised he didnt need to be on the pitch, he proceeded for a 'victory walk' out of the field, onto the track, past some spectators and finally to his home bench. everyone was laughing and boo-ing. it didnt help that he had a bandage round his head. ha.
thankfully the rain stopped. if not my arm would have been aching after the match (yes andrea?) haha just kidding. it was essentially a good night out. yes and i finally got to meet you andrea haha, and your friend menreet, and harmeet, jeremy ( being his usual self, passionate about the game, ever willing to let loose with his arsenal of vulgarities, and he knows every single singaporean player in the team which was useful lol) as well as his friends james and timothy. props to tim for the free tickets! if not for him, i would also have got in free lol, not to forget my man matt (who has contacts) was there with the gomezes, cedric and ashley. a few yellow cards, coke, chips, plenty of shouting, cursing and swearing later we headed home. the people made it a fun night, yes folks? we'll see if there are other matches coming up.
